Dawnland Movie
This evening I saw the movie Dawnland. This movie was held in the Putnam Theater. Dawnland is documentary on how the government was taking Native American kids from their parents. They were taking them and placing them with white families. They were taking them to try to integrate them to try to make them like everyone else. A lot of these families were not accepting of their way of living which resulted in a lot of physical and mental abuse to these children. This movie captured the stories of what happened to a lot of the people in Maine. These events took place throughout the 20th century. The TRC is an organization that was created to regain and rebuild trust with the indigenous
people. They worked for two years with the indigenous people in the state of Maine and are slowly gaining trust and getting more people to share their stories.
I thought that this movie was very good. I found it to be very educational and it was nice that anybody could sit down and watch it and you would still understand what was going on in the movie. If I hadn't seen this I probably would never really hear about it outside of classes or discussions based around this topic. This is extremely sad because their stories deserve to be heard, what happened to them was awful and its something that will stick with them forever. It's nice to know that they're are people taking action to stop it from happening currently and so it never happens again.

Kids at a Native American Industrial School
I as well went to go see this film. I enjoyed it thoroughly and developed a new respect for the indigenous people. The events that this film brought up such as the hundreds of native American children that were taken from their families for reasons the state came up with was just atrocious. The part of the post that really hit me was the reminder that children are still being taken. I believe the statistic was higher in Montana than it was in Maine for amount of children taken. But this film is very good at bringing up the problems that are swept under the carpet. What i liked most was the fact the new lesson plan for the schools across America has been constructed to teach children of the genocide that occurred when the "new world" was discovered.
