Chasing Coral

I watched the documentary Chasing Coral. This documentary is about the bleaching of the coral reefs. In this documentary you follow Zack Rago and his fellow researchers as they make a time lapse of the reef in around a 100 day period. To do this they went to Lizard Island. Lizard Island is an Island on Queensland on the Great Barrier Reef. This was a very interesting film to watch because you get to see how we are impacting the environment in such a short amount of time. I think watching this makes you think more about how you live and we are living as a global population. It was pretty sad to watch them die because they go from being this really cool area that has marine life all around it and than 100 days later pretty much nothing is left. It's very important that we change our  way of living in order to preserve these, without the coral reefs all of its life will lose their home. With the loss of the coral reefs entire civilizations will loose a food source. It would be like humans losing an entire section of the forest and the wildlife that lives in it is their main food source. I would recommend watching this documentary because its very informational and not boring.

This is what all of the coral reefs will look like if nothing is done to save them.
This relates to our class because coral bleaching is a result of global warming. This is specifically caused by water temperatures rising. The water temperatures rise because of the carbon that goes into the water. Like we talked about in class the ocean already has a lot of carbon in it and then things like greenhouse gases add more and this factors into the bleaching.

In the section above I talked about how carbon is a major factor in coral dying. When carbon enters the air it is trapped and isn't able to leave so it goes back down and causes the water to warm up and the overall temperatures around the world to rise.
